REQUEST FOR BIDS FOR COPIERS/PRINTERS AND MAINTENANCE PROGRAM The Rush City Independent School District is accepting bids for the furnishing of copiers and printers, including delivery, installation, and comprehensive maintenance program for the time period of May 1, 2013 through September 30, 2018. Members in Attendance: Kirby Ekstrom, Randy Westby, Tim MacMillan, Superintendent Henton, Randi Johnson, Coleman McDonough, Lori Zimmerman, Pat Tepoorten, and Arle Chambers Review of Meeting Norms There were no questions on the meeting norms. Series 600 Policies Policy 613 - Graduation Requirements Policy 613 was discussed by the committee and will go back to the Policy Sub-Committee for more discussion. Policy 620 - Credit for Learning Policy 620 was discussed by the committee and will go back to the Policy Sub-Committee for more discussion. Attendance Policy Review The committee talked about delaying the discussion of the attendance policy until the April Work Session. Members of the Citizens Attendance Policy Committee will be notified of the change. School Board Member Westby's Security Suggestion Board Member Westby had two security suggestions that he discussed with the group. The first suggestion was to provide training to staff on gun awareness and the second suggestion was to do some research on panic buttons on school buses. Both these suggestions will be looked into. NORTH BRANCH INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 138 NORTH BRANCH AREA EDUCATION CENTER SCHOOL BOARD WORKING SESSION January 24, 2013 The School Board of Independent School District 138 met in a Working Session on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. in Room 126 of the North Branch Area Education Center. Chair Salo called the meeting to order. Roll Call: Kirby Ekstrom, Jay Falk, Kim Salo, Randy Westby, Linda Heidelberger, Tim MacMillan, and Superintendent Henton Others in Attendance: Coleman McDonough, Todd Tetzlaff, Brett Carlson, Jason Hartmann, Bill Burton, Lori Zimmerman, Rosie Klopp, Charley Klopp, Stacy Johnstone, Pam Hendricks, Christine Erickson, Kirstin Perales, Christine Long, Muffy Hejny, Doug Bloom, Glen Stevens, Mary Sagstetter, Randi Johnson, Pat Tepoorten, and Arle Chambers WORKING/PRIORITYSTRATEGY SESSION ITEMS Four-Day Week Survey Don Lifto from Springsted Incorporated gave a presentation on the community survey related to the four-day week schedule. The random-sample phone survey will include 300 registered voters in the school district. There will also be a web-based survey available for all families of students currently enrolled that were not included in the 300 random-sample phone survey. The results of the survey will be presented at the February 28th Work Session. Power Point Presentation of January Forecast Randi Johnson, Director of Finance and Human Resources, presented the budget forecast for 2013-14. The district is facing a 1.6 million dollar deficit. The figure is lower than originally projected. The Board members reviewed the budget timeline as presented by Pat Tepoorten, Community Relations Director. The budget forecast will be presented to all staff on Friday, January 25. During the month of February, the Superintendent and the Director of Finance and Human Resources will gather staff input regarding the budget. On March 7, the school board will hold a special meeting to review the budget recommendation. On March 14 a public hearing will be held on the budget recommendation prior to the regular school board meeting. March 21 is the date set for school board action on the budget recommendation. The school board will adopt the final budget prior to June 30, 2013. There will also be three public meetings regarding the four-day week. They are as follows: Feb. 14, 6 p.m., room 126, NBAEC Feb. 20, 8:30 a.m., room 126, NBAEC Feb. 28, 6 p.m., room 126, NBAEC (FREE CHILD CARE AVAILABLE) Budget Boot Camp Phase I Discussion As part of Budget Boot Camp Phase I, school district administration explored moving to a FREE all-day every day kindergarten (ADEDK) program. That recommendation was discussed by the school board, and the consensus of the school board was to provide free ADEDK beginning next year, regardless of whether the school district continues with a four-day week schedule or transitions to a five-day schedule. If the school board decides to continue a four-day week, a half-day every day kindergarten will be offered to parents concerned about the length of the school day. This agenda item will need board approval at the February 14th meeting. Resolution Directing the Administration to Make Recommendations for Reductions in Programs and Positions and Reasons Therefor This will be an agenda item at the February 14th meeting. First Reading of Policy 799 - OPEB Investment Policy Statement The policy will go to the board as a first reading at the February 14th regular board meeting. Wells Fargo will be at the February Work Session to discuss the policy.
