Lakes not safe for vehicle traffic yet

Following a weekend filled with above-freezing temperatures, Chisago County Sheriff Todd Rivard continues to advise "no travel" by motor vehicles on area lakes.

He noted that, in some areas, ice depths of 15-18 inches have been reported, but equally as common are reports of six inches.

"It varies so much," he said, but added that, with settling slush and less snow cover, a significant cold snap could improve things greatly.
