Voice of Democracy, Patriots Pen contest winners receive prizes
On Thursday, Dec. 20, North Branch VFW auxiliary to Post 6424 President Valerie Nelson and the Auxiliary's Americanism chairman Phyllis Lindberg went to the North Branch high school and middle school on behalf of the Auxiliary to award the prizes to the winners of the Voice of Democracy (9-12 gr.) and Patriots Pen (7-8 gr.) competitions. Local women participate in ‘Make it with Wool' contest

The Minnesota "make it With Wool" contest was held Dec. 8 in conjunction with the Minnesota Lamb and Wool Producers annual conference. There were 28 entries in four age divisions and a "Wearable Accessory" category.
Three local women participated in the contest including (l to r) Connie Linder and Gwendolyn Swenson both of North Branch and Sheilina Sperry-Nohner of Watkins, formerly of Chisago County.
The purpose of the contest is to focus attention on the beauty and versatility of wool, to encourage the use of wool fabric or yarn in sewing, knitting or crocheting fashionable garments. Contestants must use fabric or yarn that is at least 60 percent wool. Glenette Sperry served as state director for the contest.
Sperry-Nohner advances to t he national competition Jan. 24-27 in Las Vegas in the Senior division.
Linder took honorable mention in the adult category.
